I generally don’t listen to audio books of any kind, but as a huge fan of your podcast–especially when you read the Lipid Leggin’ story–I knew it would be entertaining if nothing else, and I was not disappointed. Your voice is perfectly suited to the audio book market, and the way a book is read is often the biggest factor in audio books. As for the story itself, it’s hard to make too many comments because it has just begun. The idea itself is interesting and I like the Jehovah’s Witness sections more than the vampire ones oddly enough. The only major critique is that the story jumps around a lot which makes it confusing when you’re listening, especially while driving, and its the beginning of a book and the reader is trying to get orientated. I’m guessing Catherine’s stories take place in multiple time periods? Other than that, there’s just minor points: how did Catharine not see the guy in the beginning, then see him almost immediately, and could see he had his hands in his pockets from miles away? Do the vampires hap super vision? Why did the old lady happen to have a change purse in her pocket if she was relaxing at home? When Chris grabbed Danny from the back of the neck, his hand would have to encircle Danny’s entire neck to clamp on his windpipe. But these are just minor thoughts as I was listening. But as in entertaining movies, you just let stuff go to enjoy the ride. I especially like your detailed and cynical descriptions, really gives your story a voice. Can’t wait for the next episode!

I think handled that better in subsequent epsidoes, with better use of bumper music.

Oh yeah, and that’s not all. There’s much more to come on this.

Why did the old lady happen to have a change purse in her pocket if she was relaxing at home?

Good question. You got me on that one.

When Chris grabbed Danny from the back of the neck, his hand would have to encircle Danny’s entire neck to clamp on his windpipe.

Danny is a scrawny twelve-year-old, but Chris still needed very strong hands and long fingers to do that. You’ll see why, in time.

A lot of things don’t quite make sense, or will leave you with questions. That’s intentional. All will be revealed as the story progresses.

  3. Secret Agent X9 Says:

Yeah it’s always hard to know what’s intentional and what’s not, especially in episodic media like audio books. Thanks for taking the time to answer my comment. It’s good to know that most of it is intentional. This may even help as those points stuck in my mind and when they’re revealed in later chapters I’ll be able to remember them easier. This is a great start and you have at least one fan who is happily waiting for future chapters.

Great job Dave, I loved the first episode and can’t wait to listen to more of it. I just wish you’d hurry up and release them so we can hear more Quick Hitts. ;)

  6. Dave Hitt Says:

I’ll have a new Quick Hitts for you in a couple of days. I’m also going to put this episode into the feed to entice QH listeners who haven’t taken the plunge yet, as a bonus episode.

I wanted to make sure I could always release the next BW episode on time. My original plan was to have all of them finished before releasing them. That didn’t happen, but I’ve got a significant number in the can, and even more ready for mixdown. (The initial recording and editing is the most time consuming part, by far.) So I shouldn’t have any trouble keeping BW up to date and returning to the grueling Quick Hitts schedule of two shows a month.

  7. Buk fiddy Says:

Sir, I applaud you. I eagerly await future episodes.

Thank you for Quick Hitts as well. You have Smartenized(tm) me many times.

  8. DrivingAce Says:

Wow, great show Dave. I say “show”, because it’s so easy to forget that it’s an audio book not a weekly radio program. I never listen to audio books, so this was really a first. I’ve enjoyed your voice acting and I liked the story line itself. I definitely look forward to listening to the next shows as they come.

Good luck, and all the best.
